It is normal to loose some hair each day, about ten percent of the hair on your head is in a resting phase. The genetically sensitive hair follicles will shrink and weaken when exposed. When this happens, the active hair follicles in specific areas exposed begin to get smaller and less active and continue to shrink slightly with each growth cycle. Eventually, the hair shaft produces finer hair and after time the hairs stop emerging, causing extensive hair loss.

For most men and women hair loss increases gradually with age. This is natural, hair follicles turn dormant and the hairs that are left become thinner and fewer. Health conditions also can cause thinning hair and hair loss in men and women. Hair loss in women, unlike with men, begins with thinning hair all over the scalp without any specific pattern with the most noticeable hair loss at the crown. This is called female pattern baldness or simply female balding, and is a major cause of hair loss in women.

Other hair loss factors can include, thyroid disease, weight loss or gain, stress and anemia. Pregnancy and menopause also create hormonal changes that may affect your hair. Hair loss can also be the result of any sudden pshysical or psychological stress. An important thing to remember is that it takes a long time to replace hair loss that does not occur naturally, taking care and attention should be given to your hair's health.
