Propecia
Propecia is the brand name of the druf finasteride, that is often sold as proscar. Propecia is the first drug approved for slowing or reducing hair loss on the top and middle of the head. To date it has not been effective in reducing thinning of the hair at the hairline.
Propecia works by blocking the enzyme 5 alpha reductase that lowers levels of DHT in the body. This is the main enzyme that is responsible for converting testosterone to DHT (Dihydrotestosterone). DHT will attack and reduce hair follicles in those that are genetically disposed, it is assumed that blocking the DHT levels will reduce hair loss.
Propecia can have some negative side effects. These can include impotence and erectile problems, increase of blackheads and oil on the skin of the face.
